18 TB Capacity HDD from Western Digital
Western Digital is preparing to add 16 and 18 TB capacity HDDs to its corporate product portfolio.
WD Gold 18 TB (WD181KRYZ) is currently the highest capacity HDD on the market. This hard drive has not yet been released, but was listed by a retailer. However, another 16TB model stands out.
The 18 TB capacity disk from Western Digital belongs to the company’s Gold family and comes in a 3.5-inch form factor, like traditional SATA 3 hard drives. In addition, let us remind you that these HDDs are specially designed to operate 24/7 in the harshest conditions.

Unlike some other WD drives using Shingled magnetic recording (SMR) technology, Gold drives take advantage of traditional magnetic recording (CMR). For this reason, users do not have to worry about problems that will occur during continuous workloads.
Similar to other Gold variants, WD Gold 18 TB runs at 7,200 RPM. However, the exact features of the driver are unknown. Western Digital has not updated its product page with 18 and 16 TB models yet.
The current 14 TB capacity model offered a data transfer rate of up to 267 MBps and 512 MB of cache. We will see the features of the new 16 and 18 TB models soon.
