Xbox, Razer and more! Android 11 adds new mappings for game controls
Over the past few years, Google has worked to add more support for external gaming controls in the latest versions of its mobile operating system. Now, with the arrival of the beta of Android 11 this week, the search giant has added new compatible models.
In all, 84 new joystick mappings were included in the new testing platform. Among the accessory brands found, there are some known as Xbox, Razer, PDP and Mad Catz.

In practice, “mapping” is how Android will recognize and convert the physical buttons on the controller to virtual inputs, to which both the operating system and games can generate reactions.
Support for more models should reach all devices that will use Android 11. This is because the novelty was found in the main layout files of Android 11 Beta 1 GSI . This is based on AOSP, which means availability even for models which use a customized interface.
Several of the joysticks made for mobile devices use generic mappings, to avoid any conflict. However, with the constant inclusion of new compatible peripherals – such as those for Xbox One S, PlayStation DualShock 4 and Nintendo Switch Pro -, the variety of options has increased to players.
