Believe it or not, an Apple Watch lasted 9 months at the bottom of a lake. Its rescue and repair history is quite curious.
What would you do if your smartphone or smart watch falls to the bottom of a lake? You would probably do your best to rescue him, but circumstances may arise where it is best to let him go. However, there are some stories – very few – in which technology manages to resist the conditions of nature. Today we will tell you how an Apple Watch survived the depths of a lake for 9 months . Yes, you read well.Dan Markham recovered his 24-karat gold-plated Apple Watch
It turns out that Dan Markham, head of the YouTube channel What’s Inside, lost his Apple Watch at the bottom of a lake up to three meters deep. The problem is that it was a 24 carat gold-plated version, so he did everything in his power to get it back. Sadly, Markham did not achieve his goal, at least not on the first attempt.
9 months later, the YouTuber went to the same place and, incredible as it may seem, found the Apple Watch. Well, actually a professional diver did it. Once the device returned to the surface, Dan realized two things: the edge of the screen was yellowish and could not be turned on. The latter was quite evident; Even devices with the highest water resistance certifications would have trouble holding that long underwater.
Despite the apparent death of the Apple Watch, Markham went to an expert who could analyze him: JerryRigEverything. If you are on the lookout for tech YouTubers, you probably know him; It is world-famous for its smartphone stress tests — the one that breaks your heart by scratching the phone you love so much. Fortunately, the wearable only needed internal cleaning and a replacement for two components: the Force Touch motor and the battery.
As JerryRigEverything himself explains in his video, the Apple Watch survived thanks to its golden chassis and, above all, to the fact that the water was fresh. The story would have been totally different if the watch had fallen into the ocean – even harder to retrieve, if not impossible. In the end the new components cost $ 70, 20 from the battery, and 50 from the Force Touch. The Apple Watch continued to operate normally, although with that small flaw on the screen.
