Apple Watch saves 92-year-old retiree after dropping 6.2 meters
The Apple Watch’s fall detection feature saved the life of a 92-year-old retired farmer from Nebraska, United States. Jim Salsman reported to the local broadcaster KETV that he climbed a ladder to scare pigeons out of a metallic grain silo. After a strong wind shook it, it fell from a height of almost 6.4 meters.
According to him, when he was on the ground he felt severe pain and then he activated the assistant Siri to warn that “he was seriously injured on the farm”. However, before that, the smartwatch detector had sent an alert to the Fire Department with its location, so it was quickly found and sent to the hospital.
“If I didn’t have that watch, I think I would be dead before someone missed me,” said Salsman. At the moment, he is recovering from a hip fracture and other injuries caused by the accident.
