Dell continues to make quality leaps in its already excellent notebooks. At the beginning of the year, we knew the new Dell XPS 13, one of the reference models on the market. Now, the company introduces us to the new Dell XPS 15 (2020) and Dell XPS 17, which continue these advancements, in what is probably the most important update to the series in many years.

The new Dell XPS 17 is presented to us as the most powerful notebook in the XPS series, in an ultra-compact size that the company says is even smaller than many of the 15-inch notebooks that exist today. For its part, the Dell XPS 15 jumps to the 16:10 screen, reducing its edges and offering a huge autonomy of up to 25 hours .

“The smallest 17-inch laptop in the world”

It has taken Dell 10 years to update its 17-inch model, but the Dell XPS 17 is available again. It is the most powerful XPS series model, but the company explains that it is also very compact.

According to the company, it is the “smallest 17-inch laptop in the world”, with reduced edges on all four sides, with a 16:10 InfinityEdge touchscreen, a 93.7% ratio, and “smaller in size than the 48% of 15-inch laptops available today. “

Inside the new Dell XPS 17 we have 10th generation Intel Core processors along with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 graphics with Max-Q. To improve ventilation, Dell has incorporated a thermal system with its own design. The Dell XPS 17 can be configured with a 45W Intel Core i9 processor, with up to 64GB of RAM and 2TB of storage .

Both the 17 and 15-inch models incorporate IPS screens in 16:10 format with 4K Ultra HD + resolution of 3,840 x 2,400 pixels. Dell reports that these panels achieve 100% Adobe RGB and 94% DCI P3 space. A model with FullHD screen is also offered, both in touch and standard versions.

The Dell XPS 17, like its siblings, is made of aluminum and includes different ports for connectivity. We don’t have a USB A port, but we do have four USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports and an SD card reader. The front camera is integrated on the edge and has a size of 2.25 millimeters .

Up to 25 hours of battery

The new 15-inch model offers a 4K or FullHD panel with the same 16:10 format. Inside it can be configured with an Intel Core i9 10885H processor, 64GB of RAM and 2TB. At the connectivity level, three USB C ports are included.

But where the Dell XPS 15 stands out is at the battery level, with 56 Whr for the standard version and 86 Whr for the touch screen . According to the company, the model with FullHD panel will offer up to 25 hours of autonomy, being the “15-inch laptop with the greatest autonomy on the market”. An autonomy that is reduced to 14 hours in the model with 4K resolution.

Both laptops come equipped with Windows 10, WiFi 6 and Eyesafe technology to reduce blue light. A sound level incorporates four stereo speakers compatible with 3D sound.

Versions and price of the Dell XPS 17 and XPS 15

The new Dell XPS 15 will initially be available in the United States, Canada, and select countries in Europe and Asia this week. Its starting price will be $ 1,299. For its part, the Dell XPS 17 will arrive this summer from $ 1,499 .
