Front camera under the screen! How is this technology?
Perhaps one of the most anticipated innovations in the smartphone industry is the implementation of Front camera under the screen. No more cutouts, notches, and holes in smartphone screens!
Earlier this year we reported that Xiaomi, a company that had registered a camera patent under the screen, gave statements that the technology, despite being innovative, was far from being viable.
Now, just a few months later, the arrival of this technology is a step closer to reality, thanks to Visionox, the same company responsible for the screen present in the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha and, in addition to Xiaomi, Huawei is another manufacturer that is also using Visionox screens.
Last week the Chinese screen maker announced the new technology. In fact, it announced the new method of manufacturing an OLED panel, which allows to achieve the required level of transparency in the area defined for the camera or front cameras to be installed.
And that is the big problem for the technology to advance, the inability to offer a sufficient level of screen transparency for a capture to take place without problems.
Visionox was able to manufacture OLED panels with a high level of transparency that allows high-quality photos to be taken. Together with other companies, they have also been working on algorithms that prevent the ” fogging ” effect.
And that problem seems to have been solved, as Visionox is ready to start mass production of these OLED panels. And in this case, the first smartphones to bring a front camera under the screen may hit the market later this year.
The product manager at OnePlus also pointed to this path, so we have three companies possibly working with Visionox on this endeavor. He said that already in the second half of this year, the camera technology under the screen will go into mass production and will be incorporated into commercial products.
Other information also points to a Huawei device that also registered a patent in the same period that Xiaomi did in 2019 and also new registrations in early June 2020, that is, everything indicates that of the three companies mentioned, Huawei may be the first to bring a device to the market with new front camera technology under the screen.
