Google Maps receives new features to help users during the pandemic
Google today revealed on its official blog that it will update its Maps with two new features to help users avoid crowds and navigate more smoothly during the period of social isolation. The initiative is especially important when we take into account that some states, such as São Paulo, have already started their plans to resume the economy.
The first novelty is based on the notifications that already exist in the service, but dedicated to possible problems and restrictions due to the pandemic. The alerts used data from the traffic departments of each region, indicating places with limited circulation or whose government requires the use of masks.

The second new feature, on the other hand, is based on the movement graphics previously used in establishments, applying the same logic to train and subway stations, bus lines and more, showing users moments of the day when there is a greater crowd. Both functions can receive contributions, in a similar way to what is seen in the Waze application.

Google confirmed that the news is available starting today, with the list of countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Colombia, France, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, in addition to Brazil. This is not the first update of its kind to hit Google Maps, with the search giant working relentlessly to deliver technologies that help everyone during the crisis.
In April, the company released an update that started showing a button for restaurants that had delivery and pickup available and also facilitated the sending of “Plus Codes”, codes developed by the company based on latitude and longitude to share locations without an address.
