An excellent news that secures the future of the Huawei Mate 40 is leaked: TSMC will be able to manufacture the Kirin 1020 processor despite the US blockade.
Huawei since last week has an uncertain future in some areas of its business. After the Donald Trump administration made the extension of its blockade official for one more year.
In this new stage there would be some additional rules in the restrictions ; where component suppliers would be practically prohibited from supplying the company.
Within all that scenario TSMC, the chipmaker, was the point of all attention. Since apparently they would be subjected to those regulations in the middle of the production process of the new Kirin 1020 designated for the Huawei Mate 40.
Fortunately, we now have a little clarity about it. As reported by GSM Arena, from China it has been confirmed that these restrictions would only be effective for future orders.
So all manufacturing orders placed before the regulatory rule activation decree could still be done without US intervention. From September 2020 the veto would begin.
Huawei would have ordered the manufacture of the Kirin 1020 processors right before all, spending close to $ 400 million. So the Mate 40 would not be at risk.
But there would be an additional situation. Since inside TSMC its chip production line under the 7 nm architecture would be full to the top.
This means that the Kirin 990 and Kirin 980 could be affected if the chain is not cleared by the end of the month. But everything is uncertain at the moment for Huawei.
