Instagram for children under 13 ?!
Facebook plans to introduce a new version of Instagram soon. The version will only be for children and teenagers under 13, according to the company.
Instagram has just announced that a new version for children is under development and will be for users under the age of 13 years. The objectives will focus on protecting the privacy and information of young people using the social media application.
Vishal Shah, Instagram vice president, shared vital details about the new change. He wrote on the message board of officials about the importance of young people and their protection on the internet.
Mentioning teenagers and their safety when using online platforms, he wrote:
Instagram currently prohibits teenagers under the age of 13 from using the social media app. After his vice president, chief Adam Mosseri confirmed in his tweet that a version of the app is “something we are exploring”.
Mosseri said that after Messenger Kids, the new Instagram avatar for teenagers would really prove to be great.
Privacy becoming a significant priority in the new version of Instagram
News of a revamped version of the popular photo-sharing portal arrives a few days after posting on the company’s blog. It was about “protecting young people”. In its official blog post, Instagram agreed that some people can lie about their real age when registering for the app.
Now, confirming a teen version seems to be the perfect solution for such situations (or not). After all, if the ages lie to pretend to be older, other users can lie their ages down, pretending to be younger.
Since minors under 13 will not need to lie about their birth date when signing up, they will have a platform dedicated just for them. Speaking of the current scenario, then it seems like a good step in relation to the Facebook service.
Nowadays, it has become impossible to prevent young people, young children, from entering the online world of unwanted content. With an alternative version of a popular social media app like Instagram, they can only see and share the content they think about. There will be nothing extra that they will see, which is not mandatory.
The immense impact of the Internet and rising applications has already affected the way children behave and interact. Therefore, there must be some restriction or limit on what they are researching and doing across multiple portals. And because privacy is so valuable at the moment, all of these steps will turn out to be crucial.
