Patent reveals technology for foldable iPhone, which would already have a prototype

Apple, despite having full pockets, is silent about the possibility of having a foldable iPhone. Well, in a winning team, don’t move, right? Wrong.

While the company may continue to offer an iPhone in 2020 with a more conservative look, on the other hand the Apple development team may be planning the company’s first competition for the folding segment. Or almost so.

A patent obtained by the company reveals the design of a two-screen cell phone, which is connected by a “new generation” folding mechanism. According to insider Jon Prosser, the current prototype in Apple’s labs is a device with two separate screens that come together with a mechanical fold. Doesn’t that remind you of the Surface Duo ? It should.

More information about the product says that inside the two screens do not have notches and that the construction of these two plates is made of stainless steel. A small hole for the Face ID would be located on an external display, and from this information the conclusions can be divergent: if this external display is effectively a screen, the product may come to compete with the Galaxy Fold . If it is just a sensor offered before the user opens the phone, then it would have a more similar footprint to the Microsoft product.

As we still do not have images of this device – in addition to a basic patent design – our imagination is our greatest guide based on the little information offered by the request for industrial technology and what the insider offers us.

Remember, Apple officially launches new devices in September. It is very unlikely that this novelty will be seen in 2021 as it is still in its prototyping phase and there is no talk of large-scale production, but dreaming is still free, isn’t it?

And you, what do you think of this possible product? Tell us in the comments!
