Pokémon GO will stop working on old Android
Developer Niantic has announced that the Pokémon GO will stop working on old Android devices in the next major app update.
More specifically, the update that will arrive in early August 2020 will end support on 32-bit Android devices. This means that you won’t even be able to log into your account using an older device, nor use PokéCoins or items. To play again, you will need to sign in using a newer smartphone – be it a 64-bit iPhone or Android.
Niantic itself listed some specific models that will lose access to the game, indicating that models with Android released before 2015 will be the main affected. Check out the examples:
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, J3 ;
- Sony Xperia Z2, Z3
- Motorola Moto G (1st generation)
- OnePlus One
- HTC One (M8)
It is worth remembering that, since 2019, the Google Play Store already requires the use of 64-bit devices to operate normally. This architecture ensures better overall performance for the operating system.
