Resident Evil series has sold over 100 million copies

Capcom announces that the Resident Evil series has sold over 100 million copies. Learn the details of this famous zombie series!

According to the PC Gamer website, the Resident Evil series has just become the first franchise in Capcom’s 40-year history to surpass the 100 million sales mark. The information was revealed by the game developer recently and shows us the strength that the zombie title has had worldwide since its launch in 1996.

In addition to the 7 main games in the series, Resident Evil has won throughout its history several spin-offs and recently remakes of the first three titles. In recent years we have returned to the roots of the survival horror genre, which the game had in its beginning, with Resident Evil 7, but with a first-person perspective. In addition, we had the remakes of Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3.

Although Resident Evil 3 Remake did not go as expected, the series is being revitalized as a whole. During Resident Evil 5 and 6 there was a big drop, however it was not reflected in sales, being one of the bestsellers of the franchise.

During the “PS5 – The Future of Gaming” event, the eighth title in the series was revealed, Resident Evil 8: Village. In the game trailer, we could see that the player will continue to control the characters in the first-person perspective, as in the seventh main game of the franchise. However, it seems that we will have a jump in a different direction, with witches, werewolves, and a large castle overlooking a village that gives the game its name.

Resident Evil 8: Village does not have an exact release date yet. So far the only thing that is known is that the game will be released next year, 2021.
