Qualcomm once again bets on the segment of premium mid-range processors with the Snapdragon 768G . It is configured as the successor to the Snapdragon 765G , a chipset that we met last year and that stood out for being the first mid-range SoCs to have an integrated 5G modem . This new processor also does it, since it mounts the Snapdragon X52 modem, but it improves some aspects such as the speed of the cores and the GPU.
And it is that the new processor of the American firm mounts the same GPU as the Snapdragon 765G, the Adreno 620 , but it has been improved to, according to Qualcomm, offer 15% more rendering speed than in the 765G. The same is the case with the Kryo 475 cores inside, which also offer 15% more performance and reach a peak speed of 2.8 GHz.
More speed, but also 5G and 120 Hz displays
Having made the presentations, we will get to know better what this processor offers us, starting with 5G. The Snapdragon 768G mounts the Snapdragon X52 modem , which is compatible with DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing), mmWave and sub-6 GHz, as well as TDD and FDD. The 5G antennas are a 2×2 MIMO set for mmWave and 4×4 MIMO for the sub-6 GHz band with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. Peak speeds are 1.2 Gbps in 4G and 3.7 Gbps in 5G networks for downloads and 210 Mbps in 4G and 1.6 Gbps in 5G for uploads.
In addition to the modem, Qualcomm has implemented a number of technologies such as 5G PowerSave and Signal Boost. The first is intended to save battery power when using 5G networks, while the second aims to improve the signal. We will have to see how it works in real environments and for that it will be necessary to have mobiles that mount it. In that sense, Xiaomi has been the first with the Racing Edition of the Redmi K30. Finally, note that it is compatible with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
We already know that the peak speed of its cores is 2.84 GHz and that the GPU is a faster Adreno 620, although it is worth remembering that the GPU supports Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL 3.2 and DX12 . An important fact is that the Snapdragon 768G is the first 700 series processor whose GPU drivers can be updated. Regarding the battery, it is compatible with Quick Charge 4+ and Quick Charge AI. In the same way, it supports QHD + displays at 60 Hz or FHD + panels at 120 Hz , HDR10 + and colors with a depth of 10 bits.
We thus arrive at the camera section. The Snapdragon 768G mounts the ISP Spectra 355 , a signal processor that supports up to 192 megapixels in the case of choosing a single sensor. It supports video recording in HEVC, HLG and HDR10 +, as well as 4K HDR and slow motion in HD at 480 frames per second. And speaking of multimedia, it supports Bluetooth aptX and Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo technology.
