What is the correct way to sanitize your Apple Watch against Coronavirus?
Between putting your health at risk or ruining your smartwatch, the question remains: What is the correct way to sanitize your Apple Watch against Coronavirus?
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives radically. Things that didn’t have much importance until 4 or 5 months ago, like washing your hands well and using alcohol gel, have now become a valuable protection for our health. But if soap and water or alcohol kill the virus that can stay in our hands after touching possibly infected things, how can we sanitize an Apple Watch against Coronavirus ? After all, the watch is on the wrist, very close to the hands, and is usually touched frequently.
The new Coronavirus was already the subject here on the site. I talked about how to track the coronavirus in real-time in the world, and even about the time that COVID-19 survives on surfaces or if it can be transmitted by air.
There is still no 100% effective drug to cure Coronavirus, nor a vaccine capable of stopping the spread of Covid-19. The only way to protect ourselves from this infectious virus is to take precautions for health and cleanliness. Washing your hands is easy, but what to do when it comes to an Apple Watch?
Prevention measures for COVID-19

It never hurts to remember that, even when cleaning your Apple Watch, it is essential that you always clean your hands frequently with 70% alcohol gel or soap and water for 20 seconds is one of the most important preventive measures.
Also, always avoid placing your hands on your face, especially near your eyes, nose and mouth. If you need to do this, sanitize your hands first. Be very careful when you sanitize your hands before eating too, or handling anything close to the face.
Finally, always wear a mask when you leave the house, including receiving tele-deliveries or talking to neighbors. And avoid leaving the house always.
What is the correct way to sanitize your Apple Watch against Coronavirus?

A very pertinent issue is the cleaning of our electronics. A study claims that the coronavirus can live in an electronic device for up to 9 days. Therefore , not cleaning your smartwatch can put your health at risk. However, cleaning it the wrong way can compromise your device. So, what is the correct way to sanitize your Apple Watch against Coronavirus?
Sanitizing with soap and water
You will need a soft, lint-free cloth. The ideal is to use a microfiber cloth, as paper towels can scratch the screen of your watch.

Also, just use a little neutral liquid soap on the cloth. Never use other cleaning products, such as bleach or disinfectants.
- First, wash and dry your hands before touching your Apple Watch.
- After that, hide the charger and turn off your Apple Watch .
- Remove the strap from your Apple Watch as it will be cleaned in another way.
- Moisten the cloth with water and just a little liquid soap.
- Pass the cloth across the screen and keep away from buttons and holes in the watch.
Caution: Do not spray the product directly on the device, or use cleaning products or compressed air. Avoid bleach or other cleaning products. - If your Apple Watch is water-resistant, you can put it under running water gently for a few seconds. If it is the series 1, just dry it with a clean and dry cloth, preferably microfiber.
Sanitizing with alcohol wipes or disinfectant wipes
You can also use 70% isopropyl alcohol or disinfectant towels to gently clean the hard, non-porous surfaces of your Apple Watch, such as the screen and other external surfaces.
Avoid moisture in any opening and do not immerse the smartwatch in any cleaning product. Do not use on fabric or leather surfaces.
Cleaning the strap of your Apple Whatch

As we said at the beginning of the previous step-by-step, you must detach the watch strap to clean them separately. This is because the materials are different, and each one has its correct way of cleaning.
If you wear a rubber strap, you can wash it with soap under running water, and then dry it well before inserting it back into the watch.
However, materials such as leather or metal should be extra careful. In such cases, clean only using a cloth slightly moistened with soap and water. Afterwards, dry with a dry cloth. Remembering that this cloth should be lint-free and preferably microfiber.
Is the Apple Watch water resistant?

According to information available on the Apple website, each version of the Apple Watch has a specific recommendation on water resistance:
Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch (1st generation) are splash resistant, but diving is not recommended.
The Apple Watch Series 2 and later models can be plunged into shallow water, but not deep. You can even shower using the Apple Watch Series 2 and later models, but it is recommended not to expose the watch to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, creams and perfumes, as they can affect seals and acoustic membranes. If your Apple Watch comes into contact with anything other than clean water, it should be cleaned with clean water and dried with a lint-free cloth.
Water-resistance is not permanent and may decrease over time. Apple Watch cannot be resealed to increase resistance.
